New Jersey Laser Skin Resurfacing
Probably nothing attracted as much attention as the revolution in Facial Cosmetic Surgery performed by the laser. There are two separate lasers that are used for this.
The erbium, or cold laser, is used for a light, gentle resurfacing of the skin. It will not eliminate lines or wrinkles but can give a very significant improvement in the overall look of the face. When true skin tightening and elimination of fine and deeper lines is necessary, the CO2 laser is used.
CO2 Laser Resurfacing
CO2 Laser Resurfacing, which was approved by the FDA about 15 years ago, is still considered the gold standard. Much has changed since the introduction of this laser procedure. For the right patient with severe sun damage, very serious wrinkling of the skin (as opposed to just loose skin), and enough time to recuperate, a full CO2 laser resurfacing can be a life-altering procedure.
The most common complaint is that the skin stays red for a prolonged period of time. With the appropriate preoperative skin care, which can range up to several months if necessary, the healing can be extremely rapid. The use of make-up is allowed after approximately ten days until the skin returns to its more normal color. Rarely does a procedure in plastic surgery produce as much pleasant change as a full face laser resurfacing.

On occasion, it will be performed only on certain zones of the face, such as the area around the lips or the lower eyelids. In recent years, many forehead lifts have been avoided by the use of laser resurfacing in this area, which is often able to cause enough skin tightening to eliminate the need for skin removal. When this is performed with a liposuction or a neck lift operation, often a much more gratifying result is achieved than that from a surgical facelift alone.
