Early in 2007, we were the first one in the state of New Jersey to obtain the SmartLipo laser from Cynosure.

As of this today, we probably have the largest series of patients treated with this technique in the state of New Jersey. Most of you already know it was designed for small areas and many patients with larger areas or a large amount of loose skin had to be denied treatment with the laser. Over the past 1 ½ years we had several upgrades to our SmartLipo machine and the results continued to improve.

We are delighted to announce that we are one of the 1st – 10 Plastic Surgeons in the United States to obtain this entirely new technology from Cynosure – the SmartLipo MPX. This is a quantum leap beyond the original technology. It is not an upgrade, but an entirely new machine. It offers a 2nd wavelength which is blended with the original wavelength and dramatically increases our ability to shrink skin. We now feel confident in treating many of the patients we previously rejected because of skin laxity. We can also treat much larger areas then we could in the past. Many areas can now be treated with this machine and may be done under local anesthesia.

It seems like only yesterday that we were the first to introduce SmartLipo in New Jersey but it has been a year and a half.  SmartLipo has completely changed the way we think about liposuction.  At this point, we probably have the largest series of treated patients in the state, and this technology has become an integral part of all of our liposuction procedures.  In some patients we use SmartLipo exclusively. Occasionally, the areas concerned are too large, and I suggest the standard liposuction technique also.

We have been asked by the manufacturer of SmartLipo to be a national teaching center for other doctors to learn how to use this laser.  Liposuction has always been a wonderful procedure and the SmartLipo has added a significant advantage with a speedier recovery, and increased skin shrinkage.

For those considering the use of the SmartLipo, also please look at ACCENT. This is a dramatic new radio frequency-based technology for skin shrinkage and fat reduction for small areas only.  In some patients the results have been dramatic.  For patients who can afford to combine both the   Smart Lipo and Accent the results can be beyond anything we could imagine only a few years ago.
