Liposuction-Conventional
Liposuction is a procedure designed to remove excess fat deposits. These deposits can be almost anywhere on the body. The ideal candidate for liposuction is a person of normal weight with one or several areas of excess fat deposits that cannot be eliminated despite optimal diet and exercise. Clinically obese patients are not good candidates for liposuction, though patients that are moderately overweight can be benefited.
Liposuction surgery has been available for approximately 25 years. Sherwood Baxt, MD, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon has continued to refine techniques even though there has been no significant change in the procedure for a long time. In general, traditional liposuction has been very successful over the years, however, we all know about the longer recuperation and bruising with traditional liposuction. The surgery also needed to be performed under some form of anesthesia.
The first dramatic change came with the introduction of the SmartLipo™. We were the first in New Jersey and one of the first in America to offer the SmartLipo™ and now have probably one of the largest series of treated patients. The significant improvement to the original traditional liposuction is mainly skin tightening. Soon after, Dr Baxt offered his patients the SmartLipo MPX ™. It combines 2 wavelengths, 1064nm and the 1320nm, for optimal skin tightening and fat removal. The SmartLipo MPX™ has received FDA clearance and this is currently used on most of our patients in our certified surgi-center.
Body-jet® - water assisted liposuction ... the gentle way of liposuction and the first of its kind in the United States
Body-Jet® is water assisted liposuction (WAL). This was FDA approved in 2008 and is the dramatic breakthrough we have all been waiting for. Body-Jet® provides a novel approach to removing fat by utilizing a gentle and controlled sequence of pulsed water to dislodge fat. This new approach affords a less traumatic liposuction experience for patients with often times less discomfort and downtime. This also permits Dr Baxt to do some of the liposuction procedures under local anesthesia if the patient so desires.
Almost any area of the body with excessive fat deposits may be treated with the MPX/SmartLipo™ and Body-Jet®, including:
