Each time we think that it has gotten as good as it can get, we come up with something like PhotoFacial™. Dr. Saida Baxt spent time in California, being certified in this therapy, by the originator, Dr. Bitter. Photofacial™ is a treatment program that dramatically eliminates signs of sun damage, aging, and Rosacea, on the face and neck. We also see great results on the arms and chest.
With Photofacial treatments, there is none of the down time associated with lasers and deep peels. Using the Intense Pulsed Light system, we can dramatically improve the look of sun-damaged skin and patients with persistent redness and flushing of rosacea. Treatments take about half an hour, and the slight redness is usually gone by the time you are back in the car. Treatments are usually done every three weeks. After five treatments, many patients are so happy with their results that they elect to do more. Alternatively, some patients come in for maintenance therapy 1-2 times a year after they finish the treatment series. A topical numbing cream is used so the treatments have minimal or no discomfort.
Light-based Skin Therapy, also known as Photodynamic Therapy or PDT is a new and exciting area of interest for dermatologists. Photodynamic therapy is FDA approved for treatment of precancerous lesions on the face. Many physicians have found it effective for treatment of acne vulgaris as well. Levulan (20% aminolevulinic acid) is applied to the face and then a light or laser is shined at the affected areas, thereby activating the Levulan. The Levulan is preferentially taken up by the precancerous cells and the sebaceous gland. Please call the office and make an appointment to discuss if photodynamic therapy is right for you!
