Tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty is a popular cosmetic procedure for men and women who desire to remove excess fat and skin from their abdomen. For many patients a tummy tuck is performed after they have lost weight but still have a protruding abdomen. Most people think that that bulge can be improved by exercise. But for some patients no amount of stomach exercises or “plank exercises” will improve it!

For women who have finished bearing children and have a significant amount of loose skin and a large abdominal bulge due to the muscles being stretched during pregnancy, a tummy tuck can help them to regain the shape they desire.

Dr. Shwetambara Parakh and Dr. Sherwood Baxt have helped many patients achieve their body shaping goal with an expert tummy tuck.

To help you feel more comfortable about your decision to undergo an abdominoplasty, below is a brief outline of the abdominoplasty surgery performed by Dr. Shwetambara Parakh, female board certified plastic surgeon, at BAXT CosMedical® and Dr. Sherwood Baxt. We invite you to view our before and after photo gallery and our patients video and written testimonials.

Am I a candidate for an abdominoplasty?

The abdominoplasty or "tummy tuck" is designed to remove excess abdominal skin and fat as well as tighten loose abdominal muscles. Dr. Shwetambara Parakh and Dr. Sherwood Baxt typically see patients who are interested in this body contouring surgical procedure due to:

  • Heredity/body type factors
  • Weight gain and subsequent loss resulting in loose skin
  • Multiple pregnancies which have stretched out abdominal muscles and ligaments

What can I expect from an abdominoplasty?

Dr. Shwetambara Parakh and Dr. Sherwood Baxt advise their patients that a tummy tuck operation consists of not only removing a large amount of skin and fat, but also repairing the ligaments that hold the muscles together. This creates a flat abdomen and re-establishes a trim waistline*! The operation is very effective in people who have lost a dramatic amount of weight and have a larger amount of excess skin.

With a full tummy tuck procedure, an incision is made along the lower abdomen that is easily hidden in the underwear line. The skin and the fat of the abdomen is then gently elevated off the underlying muscles of the abdominal wall. The muscles are then brought together in the midline with stitches essentially creating a permanent internal corset. The excess skin and fat is then removed and the remaining skin is re-draped over the muscles creating a flat abdomen*.

Abdominoplasties can be performed at our onsite certified surgery center under twilight sleep anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Anesthesia is always administered by board-certified M.D. anesthesiologists. Patients who are undergoing multiple procedures may have their surgery performed at the outpatient center of local hospital under general anesthesia. Dr. Shwetambara Parakh or Dr. Sherwood Baxt will make that determination at your consultation.

Most patients are able to shower the next day and drive a car within a week. Tummy tuck patients are back at light exercise within two weeks and full activity after 6 weeks. Also, review a partial list of our recommendations for “Medications to Avoid” prior to surgery.

What is a partial abdominoplasty?

Today there are several variations on this operation that are smaller than the full abdominoplasty. At BAXT CosMedical®, our board certified plastic surgeons prefer to use the term "partial abdominoplasty" rather than “mini.”

This operation is more suitable for patients who have excess skin and fat of the lower abdomen only and do not require re-positioning of the unmbilicus.

It is still an operation and can often yield dramatic results, with much less down time. Patients must be chosen carefully for this operation.

SATISIFIED PATIENTS!
56 and Feeling It - Paramus, NJ
Dr. Shwetambara Parakh met with me on my first visit and I knew that she genuinely cared about me the person more than me the patient. In the hospital she introduced me to the entire staff herself and followed up with visits to me there and then personal phone calls herself. Her staff is courteous and polite and knew me by name right away. We talk about my grandchild, they ask without me prompting. She is a skilled Doctor that changed my appearance, but what's more she changed my confidence level and my self-esteem! She is beautiful, skilled, kind, gentle and caring. There just isn't a better doctor out there! I'm so glad I did this. You should too...tell them Connie sent you*! 😉 (Patient review 2016)

"Dr. Baxt did my chin liposuction two years ago, and a mini-abdominoplasty this year. I went into both knowing that there are no promises of perfection in plastic surgery, and that I wasn't an easy case, but I'm thrilled to say that the results of both of my procedures are phenomenal. I'm 51 now, and haven't looked and felt this good in over ten years. I feel confident and attractive every day - and very, very grateful to Dr. Baxt and his outstanding team*." (Nancy M.)
