Are you familiar with the term “Ozempic face”? In my practice, I have seen patients who are concerned about facial changes after losing a significant amount of weight from Ozempic and other weight loss medications or from dieting.
While losing weight can greatly benefit your overall health and appearance, it may have less desirable effects on your face. Why? Because losing facial volume can lead to sagging skin, giving your face a gaunt and older appearance.

What Is Ozempic Face
“Ozempic face” is a term for common side effects of the type 2 diabetes medication, semaglutide. This condition can cause sagging and aging of facial skin.1
Ozempic is one in a class of drugs called GLP-1 agonists, which are often prescribed for weight loss, including Liraglutide (Saxenda), Semaglutide (Ozempic and Wegovy), and Tirzepatide (Mounjaro).
Some of these weight loss medications can cause significant structural changes to the face due to rapid weight loss, including:
- Loss of facial volume due to fat loss
- Decreased skin elasticity, leading to sagging in the jaws and neck
- Hollowed-out appearance, particularly in the cheeks
- Increased visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles and lines
- Sunken eyes
- Abnormal fat distribution in the face

Some of the FDA-approved facial fillers that Dr. Baxt recommends for correcting facial volume loss include:
Cheek Filler for Enhanced Lift and Volume
- Juvéderm Voluma® XC: Ideal for lift and volume in the upper cheeks over the cheekbones, this firmer dermal filler sculpts effectively.
- Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC or Juvéderm® Ultra XC: Recommended for lower cheek filling, as these softer fillers blend well to fill in hollows.
