Rebecca Baxt, MD commentary of this common condition.
Research shows that acne is more than a skin condition. A recent New York Times article, “Acne Can Increase the Risk of Depression,” struck home with Dr. Saida Baxt and me. As reported in the British Journal of Dermatology 134,427 men and women with acne and 1,731,608 without were followed for 15 years. Lead investigator Isabelle A. Vallerand, an epidemiologist found that “acne is a lot more than just skin deep. It can have a substantial impact on overall mental health.”
Our patients prove repeatedly that acne is more than a skin condition! As board-certified dermatologists, we have treated thousands of patients with acne and acne scarring for many decades. We know that acne can make people feel self-conscious, unhappy and depressed. Many individuals do not want to participate in school, work, or social activities.

At BAXT CosMedical®, we take acne and scarring very seriously. We treat it very aggressively by designing a program that works for each individual patient. Since each patient’s acne problem and skin is different, care and precision must be exercised in treating acne. We use a combination of traditional dermatological therapies of creams gels and antibiotic pills, as well as hormonal medications.
Some of the advanced treatment modalities we use include Accutane, injections, chemical peels, and laser and light therapy such as photodynamic therapy, Isolaz® acne treatments, and Smoothbeam laser. These treatments help to treat acne at the root cause and provide significant help.
At BAXT CosMedical® we offer many types of acne treatments and we work with any lifestyle or budget to improve your skin. Acne is more than a skin condition, but it is very treatable. We hope to see you for a consultation. Nobody should suffer with acne when there are so many ways to treat it effectively.
