Effective Acne and Acne Scar Laser Treatments
During your consultation, Dr. Rebecca Baxt will recommend what laser, light source and/or combination of treatments will best address the type of acne you have and any resultant scars. She will provide recommendations for aftercare to reduce your acne breakouts and to keep your skin healthy and vibrant. Some of the options available at BAXT CosMedical® are:
- Vbeam® Perfecta: This Pulsed-dye laser treatment is often recommended for patients who are looking to remove or reduce blood vessels, angiomas, rosacea, and redness on the face, neck, and body. It is also effective for the reduction or removal of sun spots, freckles, leg veins, red acne scars, and other red post-traumatic or surgical scars.
- Isolaz® Acne Treatment: An acne treatment that targets the root cause of acne! This acne treatment uses photopneumatic technology (intense pulsed light with suction) to kill bacteria, unclog pores, and help put acne into remission.
- ellacor+ System with Micro-Coring™ Technology: Can be used to treat acne scars by precisely targeting tiny areas of the skin and stimulating the production of collagen.
- Fraxel® Dual Laser Resurfacing: An excellent laser to remove brown spots, sun damage, decrease wrinkles and acne scarring. Fraxel® treatments can be used on the neck, chest, hands, and other body areas.
- Photodynamic Therapy (PDT): A combination treatment comprised of topical medications and a special light. PDT is used to treat a variety of skin diseases, including acne, and is safe for all skin types and colors.
- Smoothbeam: This treatment is FDA-approved to treat acne. It shrinks the oil-producing sebaceous glands and helps reduce acne scars by stimulating the production of new collagen.

Expert Advice by Dr. Rebecca Baxt
“In-office treatments with more power can be more effective at acne treatment. At-home devices that only rely on blue light, as mentioned, are helpful for killing bacteria and can help with the occasional blemish, but they don’t show good efficacy for full-face treatment of acne. However, in-office treatments like photodynamic therapy, with a sensitizer such as levulan or ameluz, then the use of red or blue light, can be very effective for acne,” Dr. Baxt said. “After a few treatments, it can put acne breakouts into a remission, thereby preventing them.”

You want an experienced board-certified dermatologist, not a nurse, not a physician assistant (PA), not a doctor who took weekend courses performing your laser treatments, and not some at-home, handheld device. Lasers are powerful devices and must be utilized properly to avoid complications and get the best results.
In the state of New Jersey, lasers must be performed by a physician. Beware of spas with staff with limited training. On a weekly basis, Dr. Rebecca Baxt treats complications from laser patients treated elsewhere. Select the right doctor the first time! Make sure you select a board-certified dermatologist.
