If you dread getting into a swimsuit or even wearing any sort of clothing that shows off any part of your legs due to spider veins, you are not alone. In fact, it is estimated that about 30%-60% of adults suffer from either spider or varicose veins. If you suffer from these painful and embarrassing veins, it’s time to consider sclerotherapy. Read on to learn more.
What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a procedure that involves having one of BAXT CosMedical’s Board Certified Dermatologists inject a solution— typically made with salt— directly into the vein. The solution then interacts with the blood vessel, causing the blood to eventually clot. Once the solution has been injected into the vein, you may feel some light cramping or discomfort for a couple of minutes but that will soon subside. Depending on how many veins you have and what the doctor recommends, you may be able to have all of your veins treated in one session.
What is recovery like?
Recovery from sclerotherapy is pretty basic and straightforward. After you have been sent home, you will also be advised to avoid things like hot baths or over-the-counter blood thinners like Advil, Aleve, Excedrin, and/or Motrin.
Does Sclerotherapy work?
Sclerotherapy is shown to work in approximately 50-80% of patients who receive it. Depending on multiple factors including any sort of blood conditions or diseases, you may or may not react very well to sclerotherapy.
