With the winter season in full swing, it can be easy to sometimes forget to take proper care of your skin. However, here at BAXT CosMedical® we know the importance of babying your skin all year long. From applying a daily sunscreen to using the correct type of moisturizer for your skin type, this article will address winter skincare and just why it is so important.
Sunscreen
Our patients at BAXT CosMedical® come to us with an array of questions and concerns relating to sun damaged skin. As one of the most important aspects of properly protecting your skin from the sun’s damaging rays, it’s important to apply a sunscreen to your face every day— even in the winter. Although it might seem like the sun is hiding behind the clouds and won’t get the opportunity to even kiss your skin, the sun’s rays are just as strong in the winter months as they are in the summer, so get into the habit of applying a sunscreen to your skin every morning before you head out the door.
Moisturizers
In the world of skincare, there isn’t a one sized fits all method. And when it comes to picking a facial moisturizer, it’s especially important to ensure that you are picking a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type. With winter wreaking havoc on everyone’s skin and causing it to become dry and painful, it can be hard to find a moisturizer that’s right for you and your needs.
• Oily Skin: If you have extremely oily skin and are prone to acne breakouts, then it’s important to look for a moisturizer that is oil free and noncomedogenic, or won’t clog pores.
• Normal Skin: If you are blessed to have well balanced skin that isn’t too dry or too oily, then look for a moisturizer that contains hydrating compounds and that maybe even has a sunscreen in it as well.
• Dry Skin: If your skin can suck up moisture like a cactus in the desert, then look for a moisturizer with ingredients like oils and dimethicone, and hyaluronic acid, and petrolatum. Ointments are greasy but they work well for dry skin.
