Post-Summer Skin Rehab Advice From Dr. Baxt

Although summer activities such as beach outings, picnics, vacations, and other outdoor experiences are enjoyable, now that it’s almost fall, it’s important to evaluate our skin for any potential new damage.
Far too many people go outdoors without adequate sun protection. The ultraviolet (UV) light damages your skin. Over time, the damage builds up and men and women will begin to see changes to their skin, including:
- Hyperpigmentation (dark/age spots)
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Loose skin
- Blotchy or ruddy complexion
- Premature skin aging
- Dry, rough skin
- Skin cancer
Dr. Rebecca Baxt, a board-certified dermatologist, explains how you can protect your skin and minimize or reverse skin damage with amazing minimally invasive cosmetic treatments, including laser, light, and aesthetic options. Dr. Baxt will recommend a customized treatment plan that to give patients optimal results.
What Is The Major Cause Of Summer Skin Damage?
Too much time in the sun, even with sunscreen, contributes to overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. This exposure can lead to a variety of skin conditions, premature aging, and the worsening of conditions like rosacea, eczema, and melasma.
For those individuals who experience a sunburn resulting in red, painful, and potentially peeling or blistering skin, the damage to the skin can be more significant.
What Treatment Options Are Available To Reverse Sun Damage?
There are many options and combination treatments used to treat sun damaged skin, but Dr. Baxt recommends these three preferred cosmetic treatments:
- Fraxel®
- Clear + Brilliant®
- Medical-Grade Chemical Peels
The recommended therapy or combination of procedures, number of treatments, and sequence is different for each person. Dr. Baxt develops a customized treatment plan is provided for each patients, including skin maintenance.
Expert Post-Summer Skin Rehab Advice
Dr. Rebecca Baxt is specifically trained in treating medical skin problems and helping patients achieve healthy skin. She is an expert in facial cosmetic skin rejuvenation procedures using clinically proven laser therapies that are ONLY performed by Dr. Baxt, not a technician!
At BAXT CosMedical®, she offers a variety of laser and light source technologies to address skin damage and to reverse skin damage to achieve healthy, vibrant skin and to renew your face to a more youthful appearance.
Two of the recommended treatments to reverse sun damage are laser therapy with Fraxel® Dual Laser Resurfacing and/or Clear + Brillant®. Laser treatments are safe and effective for all skin colors and types, but a consultation with Dr. Rebecca Baxt is required to determine which laser or light therapy is best for you.
1. Fraxel® Dual Laser Resurfacing
Many patients who have sun-damaged skin achieve optimal results with Fraxel® Dual Laser Resurfacing. Dr. Rebecca Baxt uses Fraxel® Dual Laser Resurfacing to address sun damage, aged skin, hyperpigmentation, melisma, and acne scarring.
Dr. Baxt explains to her patients that Fraxel® works by creating tiny microtrauma underneath the surface of the skin, and then as the body heals those sites, new collagen grows. Fraxel® Dual has two wavelengths, and it works well for reducing hyper-pigmentation/sun damage, as well as treating scarring (including acne scarring), fine lines, and wrinkles.
2. Clear + Brilliant® Laser
Dr. Baxt successfully utilizes Clear + Brilliant® to address unwanted signs of skin aging resulting in rejuvenated and renew skin. Clear+Brilliant® is often called a “baby Fraxel.” It is similar to Fraxel® but at a lower power and with less downtime.
Clear + Brilliant® is a gentle laser that has two different wavelengths. Dr. Baxt will determine which is best for you at your consultation. Many patients are treated with both wavelengths over time. The laser energy creates microscopic treatment zones in your skin, replacing damaged skin with healthy, younger looking tissue.
3. Chemical Peels
Professionally administered chemical peels are excellent treatment options to help with skin pigmentation issues, discoloration, uneven skin tone, dull complexion, fine lines, and wrinkles. Not all peels are the same as they vary from superficial to medium to deep peels that use stronger acids. At BAXT CosMedical®, we offer Glycolic Acid Peels and TCA peels or Trichloroacetic Acid peels. Dr. Baxt’s recommended chemical peels to reverse sun damage are Glycolic Acid and TCA. While chemical peels can be performed on all skin colors and type, a consultation with Dr. Baxt is required to determine which peel is best and the strength and frequency needed to achieve the patient’s goal.
Dr. Rebecca Baxt has years of experience working as a board-certified dermatologist. She has helped numerous people rejuvenate and renew aging and sun damaged skin. There are many options available but scheduling a consultation with Dr. Baxt is the first step.
